This is it. The work on "Project: Wanderer" has begun. So far I am the only person involved in the production of the game, but maybe with time that will change. I will use this place to report my progress along the long way. Here's some info on game's world.
Background:
The year is 2131. Twenty six years earlier Confederated Earth was formed by all human governments. But humanity is far from united. Four strongest factions, North America Alliance, European Union, Russian Federation and Asian Consortium maintain high levels of autonomy from central government. Confederated Earth runs a military force by the name of Joined Earth Forces (JEF). Due to internationality of its members and leaders JEF often suffers
from internal strifes.
In 2078 all four factions began building Mars Colony. In 2114 a colonist ship using experimental Slide Engines reached Alpha Centauri, establishing first human outpost outside solar system. The prospect of space conquest led to quarrels between four factions. Finally in 2129 situation called for a direct conflict.
In the face of civil war President of Confederated Earth agreed to solution proposed by Hiroshi Sato, a Japanese engineer extremely popular for his part in inventing the Slide Engines. Under auspicions of JEF Mars Colony started building a completely new class of ship - Wanderer. At the same time 28 people from all over the world had been chosen to form the crew of new vessel. Their mission is to take Wanderer on a one year cruise into unknown regions of space and explore them in full cooperation. If they can make it, a series of Wanderers with international crews aboard will go in their tracks, hopefully proving that mankind can enter space united. Codename of the assignment is Project: Wanderer.
Game Specs:
While plot is not set in stone yet, I can already say that "Project: Wanderer" will be a full length game with an immersing story, several hours of gameplay, more than 50 locations, 9 playable characters and many more to interact with. The game will also feature realistic hand drawn graphics and a completely original midi soundtrack. Hopefully it will catch some of the atmosphere of early 90's classic adventure games.
The game will be made using the Adventure Game Studio by Chris Jones.
"Project: Wanderer" is non-commercial project and will be released as freeware.
